Derk Valenkamp, responsible for the data networks at ETH Zurich, presented his experience with the implementation and use of IPv6.
The IPv4 addresses have been scarce for years at ETH Zurich. Therefore, an increasing number of NAT/PAT solutions have had to be implemented which require great logging overhead and high requirements from the operational and security aspects. In order to meet the network requirements in the long term, the growth of ETH Zurich and its IT has been set for years on IPv6.
A brief interim report by Derk Valenkamp, group leader of the ID data networks, showed what ETH Zurich has done so far on concept work, training and other measures. There are a few stumbling blocks and obstacles, which had to be taken or still have to be taken.
